Bhubaneswar:  Voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines will be used during the Bijepur bypoll in Odisha.

Chief Electoral Officer, DN Gupta stated that VVPAT machines will be used in future general elections as per the notification of the Election Commission of India.

VVPAT machines will be attached to the electronic voting machines (EVM) in all the booths during the upcoming Bijepur bypoll in Odisha.

“In case of any irregularities or suspicion, concerned candidates or their representatives can register complaint and it can be verified from the slip. The data can also be stored for a good number of days,” said Gupta.

Gupta further informed that the Bijepur bypoll matter is sub judice in Orissa High Court and the commission is waiting for necessary orders.

“Unless all the election petitions before the HC or SC are settled, the election commission cannot take any decision,” he added.
