Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Internationally acclaimed Odisha based filmmaker Sabyasachi Mohapatra’s ‘Pahada Ra Luha’ (Tears of Mountain)’has been adjudged the best Odia film in the regional category at the 63nd National Film Awards announced on Monday.
Pahadara Luha is again a film by Mohapatra based on industrialisation and subsequent displacement of Paraja tribals in the Koraput district of the state.
Expressing happiness and gratitude after the announcement, Mohapatra said: “As I always try to make a good cinema for which I take long time to finalize the script and actors and this (Pahad Ra Luha) is one of them.”
“My film has got the award due to the blessings of Lord Jagannath and Maa Samaleswari and the love and affection of millions of Odia film lovers”, the veteran filmmaker added.
Mohapatra futher stated, "Around 25 years ago, I had started the film. However, I could not complete it due to some financial constraints. Now, as I completed the film with the same characters, I am very happy."
When asked to whom he will give credit for the success, he said, "The credit goes to all artists and technicians of the film."
Dibyashankar Mishra, an actor in the film and BJD MLA said, "I played a character in the film to spread a message on how naxals can be included into the mainstream. As I had said earlier of getting accolades nationally, the film has bagged National Award. I expect it will be honoured at the international platform as well."
Expressing her joy over the National award to the film, Lochani Bag, actress, said, "The story deserves to get the best film award. It is all about tribals' lifestyle. I convey thanks to the content to my heart to the director for giving me a chance to play a role."
Notably, the 66-year-old producer and director’s film ‘Adim Vicharha’ (Ancient Justice) had won the coveted award at the 62nd National Film Awards.
‘Adim Vichar’, a sequel of ‘Sala Budha’, is based on the lives of the tribal people of Odisha. The movie, based on Sabyasachi’s father Kapileswar Prasad Mohapatra’s short story, is about a righteous elderly Kondh tribal, who turns rebellious when he is implicated in a case and produced before a court.
