Bhubaneswar: Both Arts and Commerce students have achieved above 70% success rate in  the Plus-II examinations conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) this year. However, the success rate in Vocational Education stream was considerably lower at 57.67.

The results of the Plus Two Arts, Commerce and Vocational courses were declared by Higher Education minister Pradip Panigrqahi at the CHSE headquarters here this afternoon.

Out of a total of 242,993 students appeared in the examination in the Arts stream, 1,83,871 have cleared the examination making it a pass percentage of 71.55.

In Commerce, 22,320 out of 31,707 students have cleared the examination: a pass percentage of 70.39.

In Vocational stream, out of 9890 students, 5704 students have passed, which worked out to a pass percentage of 57.67.

Among the students who have passed the examination, only one student in the Arts stream and six in Commerce stream have secured 90 percent and above marks while no student in Vocational stream is in this grade.

In Arts stream, 252 students have secured 80 percent and above marks while 4200 students have secured 70 percent and above marks.

The number of students securing first class, second class and third class is 18,036, 28,262 and 1,27,401 respectively.

In Commerce stream, 407 students have secured 80 percent and above marks and 1734 have got 70 percent and above marks.

The number of students securing first class, second class and third class is 4044, 3147 and 15,123 respectively.

In Vocational stream, 20 students have secured 80 percent and above marks while 256 have secured 70 percent and above.

The number of students securing first class, second class and third class in vocational stream is 8216, 2303 and 1892 respectively.

In Arts, Bargarh district has registered highest pass percentage with 84.11 while Sundargarh district has the lowest pass percentage of 55.49.

In Commerce, Nayagarh district has come out with flying colours with a pass percentage of 92.61 while Deogarh is at the bottom of the list with 36.05 percent.

In Vocational Education, Boudh district has topped the list with 84.41 percent while Rayagada district has registered a dismal pass rate of only 17.17 percent.

Commenting on the results, CHSE chairman Basudev Chattoi said "If you look at last fiver years' statistics then the current year's performance has been better. Last year, in Arts we had achieved 76% success. But if we look to prior years the the average success rate has been within 68-70%."
