Bhubaneswar: More than 50 Ayush doctors agitating near the National Health Mission (NHM) office were detained by the Nayapalli police today on charges of disrupting work of the government office.

The doctors have been on strike since three days in front of the NHM office demanding regularisation of jobs and payment of wages as per the Central pay scale.

The Ayush doctors’ association has been demanding allocation of Central pay scale to more than 1,200 doctors who have completed ten years at the primary health centres (PHCs) and community health centres (CHCs) in the State.

Despite their silent protest, the police took more than 50 doctors into custody, the doctors alleged.

They said the NHM director did not pay any heed to their demands and rather used police force to dissuade them.
