Bhubaneswar: More than 1,200 small depositors duped by chit fund companies in Odisha have been refunded their money, as per the report of Justice MM Das Commission of Enquiry, which is probing into the multi-crore chit fund scam.

As per the third interim report of the panel released today, as many as 22 various chit fund companies have reimbursed money to small investors in State.

Kolkata based Prayag Infotech High Rise Limited has returned money to maximum 1019 depositors while Rose Valley group has refunded deposits to as many as 52 small investors.

Likewise, Omshree Resources has returned the money to 34 depositors and Swabhiman Developers Limited has returned deposits to 16 investors.

The probe panel has prepared the third interim report after inspecting 1, 14,384 petitions, out of which it has identified 53,360 as small depositors.

Based on complaints filed by investors, as many as 245 companies out of 279 chit fund firms have been sent notices.

Earlier, in February, the probe panel had submitted its second interim report stating that 1,124 depositors were refunded by various ponzi firms.

The commission will soon begin process to identify depositors in the fourth phase.
