Bhubaneswar:  Despite several awareness campaigns on gender equality, the women across the country continue to face exploitation and gender-based violence. However, few women have broken the stereotype and have set an example and are now working tirelessly to bringing a change in the society and empower women.

The work of such crusaders is indeed a source of inspiration for thousands of women who can now also dream of becoming ‘bold’ and ‘bring in change’ in the society.

OTV, the premier news channel of Odisha recognised and felicitated these champions of change at ‘Prerana’, an annual event organised to mark the occasion of International Women Day today. The programme will be telecast at 8 pm tonight.

Bollywood actress and MP Kirron Kher was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking on sidelines of the event, Kher said, “We should ensure equality between boys and girls in our homes.  Boys should also be taught to assist their parents in carrying out daily chores. Why should only girls be asked to do the works at home,” said Kher.

Highlighting the problems plaguing women in her area, Bonda tribe leader Shambhari Sesa   said, “women in her area are illiterate and hence they are easily misled.”

Social activist Sudhira Behera and tribal Tulasi Bhatra thanked the OTV for such initiative that will go a long way in empowering the women in our state.
