OTV impact: Elderly couple living in toilet to get a govt house

Keonjhar: A day after the OTV telecast plight of an elderly couple of Harshapur village under Keonjhar Sadar block living in a toilet built under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the local administration today visited the couple and promised a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Keonjhar Sadar BDO Adikanda Behera reached the village and assured the couple of a government house following a spot assessment.

Behera said, "Till the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana house gets ready, the administration has requested the elderly couple to stay in the present dilapidated single-room thatched house, where their son and daughter-in-law are staying."

Yesterday the OTV had shown sufferings of 70-year-old Naku Naik and his wife Sumati Naik, who have been living in a 4ft x 3 ft toilet after they failed to get a house under any government scheme.
