Ostracised woman delivers twins while walking to hospital

Malkangiri: Unable to get any assistance from local villagers, an expectant mother delivered twin girls while walking all alone to the hospital. Such an incident reported from Dalapatiguda village under Mathili block of Malkangiri has once again raised concern on the safety of pregnant women and children in the backward tribal district.

As per sources, the woman, resident of Kamaraguda village suffered from labour pain yesterday while her husband was away. Unable to get any help from neighbours, as she was forced to settle on the outskirts of Dalapatiguda after being ostracised for marrying a man from other caste, she decided to trek all alone to Mathili hospital through a dense forest. But she delivered the babies midway.

She was recovered and later shifted to Mathili hospital after passersby arranged for a 102 ambulance. Both the mother and the twin girls are said to be in healthy condition.
