Dhenkanal: Unidentified miscreants looted ornaments and valuables worth lakhs of rupees from Ram Mandir in Malpura village under Kamakhyanagar police station of the district late Thursday night.

The incident came to light a day later when the temple priest came to open the temple early today.

Shocked after finding the locks and the grills of the temple broken, the priest informed the temple Committee who immediately brought the matter to the notice of the police.

On receiving information, Kamakhyanagar SDPO Seikh Abdul Karim and IIC Gyanaranjan Samal reached the spot and have begun investigation into the incident, sources said.

“When I came to open the temple, I noticed that the main doors were broken and the ornaments were missing,” said the temple priest.

“The burglars entered into the temple late last night by breaking the main gate and have robbed several ornaments of the deities. Investigation is on and the miscreants will be arrested soon,” said a police official.
