Bhubaneswar: Taking cognizance of the numerous problems in the healthcare system, the State Health Secretary on Tuesday wrote to the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to conduct test for recruitment to the post of medical officers (Assistant Surgeons).

As many as 2,173 medical officers’ seats are currently lying vacant- 1062 (Unreserved), 445 (SC) and 666 (ST).

“The posts are required to be filled up on regular basis in the rank of Group-A (Junior Branch) as per the provisions of Odisha Medical and Health Services Rule, 2017,” the letter read.

Earlier in August, the Odisha government had handed over appointment letters to 581 doctors for posting at different health centers across the State to address the shortage of doctors and improve healthcare services in the State.
