Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the controversial remarks of Justice MM Das, chairman of chit-fund commission of inquiry, at a BJD function last week, Congress and BJP on Sunday demanded his removal.
While Congress decided to stage protest against Justice Das at organizational districts tomorrow, BJP is planning to gherao the office of Das at Cuttack tomorrow and organise protest meeting and stage demonstration at organizational districts on May 3.
Prasad Harichandan, PCC president, said, “Why the chief minister is mum on the issue? We demand the government should ask Justice Das to resign and dismiss the commission.”
He added the party has decided to stage demonstration tomorrow in all the districts.
In line with the PCC chief, BJP general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said, “Justice Das has lost credibility to hold the position of the chairman of the inquiry commission and the government should take action immediately.”
He further stated the party has decided to hold protest meeting and stage demonstrations at the organizational districts on May 3.
Bijoy Mohapatra, senior BJP leader, said attending a political party function and giving such remarks are bigger mistakes on the part of Justice Das.
“As the commission of inquiry has become entangled with a row, the government should take action and dissolve it,” Mohapatra added.
Meanwhile, Damodar Rout, Cooperative minister criticized the remarks of Justice Das.
Rout said, “He (Justice Das) has no role to play in giving certificate to the government.”
BJD spokesperson Sasibhusan Behera said though the statement of the Justice is his, the party will review whether the remark affects the work under the Commission of Act.
Notably, in his statement at the BJD legal cell meeting on Thursday, Justice Das had said people had invested their money in the chit fund company out of greed to get double the invested amount. Since the state government has no role in it, there is no need for it to refund duped money to these investors. If necessary, the government should provide them financial assistance like it does during natural calamities.
