Bhubaneswar: Only 33.03 per cent schools in Odisha have electricity connection against the overall 62.81 per cent in the country, Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Upendra Kushwaha said in the Rajya Sabha today.

Apart from Odisha, Bihar (37.78), Madhya Pradesh (28.80), Manipur (39.27), Assam (25), Meghalaya (28.54) and Tripura (29.77) are other states having schools with poor access to electricity.

Jharkhand is at the bottom of the list with only 19 per cent schools having access to electricity, Kushwaha said in response to a written question.

The national capital along with Chandigarh, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Puducherry top the list with 100 per cent schools with electricity connection.

The Minister quoted the data collected through the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE).
