Rourkela: A team of Bengaluru police today reached Rourkela and started investigation into the online racket that defrauded people across the country to the tune of lakhs of rupees.

A member of the gang identified as Chetan Sharma has been arrested by Rourkela police.

The police also seized nine pass books of different banks in the city, where deposits of Rs 17 lakh have been traced. The amount was reportedly accumulated from these fraudulent deals, informed sources.

The racket used to cheat people from different cities like Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata through fraudulent online lottery and marketing schemes.

"We received a tip off that huge amount of money is being credited to several bank accounts of a person suspiciously. Later, we got to know that two cases have been registered against him in Bengaluru. A team of Bengaluru police has reached here and started investigation," Rourkela SP Umashankar Das said.

The accused, however, feigned ignorance about the bank transaction.

"One Prakash Jaiswal had taken my bank account with all IDs and passwords by promising me to offer financial assistance for my sister's marriage and had done fake transactions. I don't know anything," Sharma said.
