One student killed, 24 injured in Puri wall collapse

Puri: In a tragic incident, a girl student of Basukera Saraswati Sisu Bidya Mandir was killed and 24 students sustained critical injuries after a wall adjacent to the school premises collapsed on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Minakshi Satpathy, a class VIII student of the school.

According to sources, the incident took place when the students were about to take their cycles parked adjacent to the wall which was in dilapidated condition.

The wall suddenly collapsed causing the death of a student and living others injured. The injured students were first rushed to Satyabadi hospital and later shifted to Capital hospital in Bhubaneswar, the sources added.

On being informed about the incident, School and Mass Education department minister Debi Prasad Mishra visited Capital hospital to meet the injured students.

Meanwhile, Puri collector has asked the DEO to probe into the incident and declared that the district administration will bear all expenses of treatment of the injured students.
