Bolangir: One Special Operations Group (SOG) jawan injured in a Maoist ambush here on Sunday near Mahakhanda forest in Kantabanji.

The Maoists attacked the SOG team while they were going from a combing operation in the region. There was an exchange of fire in which the jawan was hit by a bullet in the stomach, says report.

The jawan, identified as Chandrabhanu Bhoi, is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital. Bhoi is likely to be airlifted to Visakhapatnam on Monday.

Bolangir Collector, Ashish Thakre informed media that the medical report of Bhoi is yet to come but his condition is stable.

"He is under observation. His condition is stable now and everything is normal," said Dr Satyajit Joshi.

Earlier last month, an exchange of fire had taken place between the Red rebels and security forces inside the Chandili forests at Lathore of the district. However, no one was injured.

Besides, in a recent incident of terror, the Maoists torched ten vehicles including four tractors, JCB machine and four motorcycles in Rayagada’s Kalyansinghpur block late on Saturday night.

The incident led to panic as the ultras also left behind posters opposing the road construction work in the region.
