Malkangiri: One more child died of Japanese Encephalitis in Malkangiri today taking the total number of deaths in the district to 73 in the last 50 days.

The deceased identified as Bhima Madhi (5) of Gouriguda village died while undergoing treatment at the Kalimela Community Health Centre (CHC). He was undergoing treatment at the hospital for the last three days. This is the first death due to the vector-borne disease in the village.

Earlier on Friday, two children of Badali and Jilenguda villages died of the deadly disease at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here. Sources said around 30 children are currently undergoing treatment for the disease in the district.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan would visit Malkangiri on November 4 to review the situation. Earlier, Health Minister Pradeep Amat and Secretary Arti Ahuja have visited the affected areas in of Malkangiri district and took stock of the situation.
