Berhampur: Dengue has resurfaced in Ganjam district with Surya Behera of New Bus Stand area in Berhampur town being tested positive for dengue on Thursday.

Behera reportedly complained of fever and visited MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment on June 21. Later, his blood samples were collected to test for dengue.

After the samples were found positive, Behera was admitted to the dengue ward in the hospital and is currently undergoing treatment, said official sources.

The district administration has planned to carry out awareness campaigns in the Silk city to curb dengue before the virus spreads its tentacles, informed the district malaria officer Uma Shankar Mishra.

“As a routine measure, our staffs have been visiting all the apartments and residential colleges in the town. We have initiated a strong campaign from district to village level to aware people of cleanliness and steps to prevent the birth of dengue larvae,” said Mishra.

The deadly dengue has been giving sleepless nights to the State administration since 2010. In 2016, over 7,797 dengue cases were reported while 2,450 in 2015, 6,433 in 2014, 7,131 in 2013, 2,255 in 2012, 1,816 in 2011 and 29 in 2010.
