Bhubaneswar: Odia girl Swarnalata Dalai of Jajpur district has won accolades for the State by scaling the world’s highest peak.

The 20-year-old tribal girl of Kalinganagar area in Jajpur has successfully climbed the Mount Everest along with co-mountaineers Poonam and Sandeep Toliya under the prestigious Mount Everest Expedition organised by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) after trainingunder ace mountaineer and first Indian woman Everester, Bachendri Pal.

Tata Steel congratulated the three achievers for their feat.

Prior to this, she had taken part in various other mountaineering missions including scaling of Mt. Aconcagua (Highest peak of South America) in February this year.

It was only during the first edition of Biju Patnaik Himalayan Expedition in 2016, that Swarnalata’s mountaineering skills drew attention, following which she was selected by TSAF for Mt. Rudugaira Expedition.

Expeditions like the Roopkund Trek in Garhwal, believed to be one of the toughest treks and the Indian Women’s Gokyo - Everest Grand Circle Expedition favoured Swarnalata's selection in the Mt. Everest Expedition 2018.

TSAF regularly conducts various trekking programmes and expeditions to peaks across the world including Biju Patnaik Himalayan Expedition since 2016.
