Bhubaneswar: A day after its exclusive report on how well-known Ollywood actors and actresses actively promoted the Oscar chit fund company at a function in Surat in 2009, OTV today came up with exclusive footage of some Ollywood stars, including veteran Uttam Mohanty and comedian Papu Pom Pom, lavishing praise on the company at a function in Surat in 2008.
The video footage broadcast by OTV today shows Uttam Mohanty, comedian Papu Pom Pom and actress Kajal attending the annual function of the Oscar Group of Companies in Surat.
Not only were these stars given a warm reception and distributed prizes to the company staff, they also praised the company and its CMD Pravas Rout in effusive terms.
In his address, Uttam Mohanty, who was the chief guest at the function, had gone to the extent saying; “I am proud to be here and always want to be a part of the Oscar company. Our company is going to be a very top company all over the country. I hope it will continue forever.”
Papu Pom Pom went a step ahead of Mohant saying “The Oscar Finance company is a flagship unit of Oscar Management Services Ltd for which I express my profound regards to Pravas Babu. I am extremely happy that though I am thousands of kilometers away from Odisha, here I find only Odias. It is a home-away-from-home feeling.”
In her address, actress Kajal had said; “We are with a very successful and nice company. We can grow as a great and huge company in future in making the people do something of their own as well as for others”.
The Oscar Group CMD was all praise for Uttam Mohanty. “Our chief guest Uttam Mohanty is also one of the family members of the Oscar Education Trust. He has contributed his valuable time to attend our function by travelling from Odisha to here at his own cost. He is also the convenor of Oscar Charitable Trust. I thank him for his association with our company,” he had said in his speech.
However, some Ollywood artists have rubbished the media allegation on the involvement of these actors and actresses with the chit fund company.
“Only they can say better why and under what circumstances they had said what they said and what were the compulsions for them. But I object to your (media) contention that if somebody dubs someone good, it means that what he/she has said is the gospel truth,” actress Pinki Pradhan told OTV.
Another Ollywood actor Kuna Tripathy said the entire Ollywood is deeply hurt by the allegations being levelled against Uttam Mohanty for his involvement with a chit fund company.
“You can ask the Odia actors, who are working in the Ollywood industry since the last 30 years and no one will ever believe that a man like Uttam Bhai would go to such extent. I can say with conviction that Uttam Mohanty is not only popular among the people, but also among the artists and actors of Odisha. To the best of my knowledge, he has never taken a single pie from anyone,” Tripathy claimed.
Meanwhile, the state government has decided to confiscate and auction the properties of Oscar Group of Companies. Sources said apart from Bhubaneswar and Kendrapara, the Oscar Group has properties in Ganjam, Agasti Nuagan, Aska, Kodala, Chhatrapur and Kukudakhandi blocks in Ganjam district.
“The state government has directed the designated court in Berhampur to confiscate and auction the properties of the company,” government prosecutor of the designated court Bijay Pradhan told OTV today.
The government has decided that all houses and land in the name of six sister concerns of the Oscar Group of Companies—Oscar Management Services, Oscar Infra Development, Oscar Education Trust, Oscar Cooperative Ltd, Oscar Movies and Oscar Multi-state—managed by Pravas Rout, his wife Bijaylaxmi Rout and Director Muna Patra would be confiscated the auctioned.
“While the process has already begun, notices have been served on these three to appear before the designated court in person on July 4,” Pradhan said.
