Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed the state government to provide compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of an eight-year-old girl, who died allegedly due to medical negligence in Kendrapada district two years back.

The compensation amount would be recovered from Dr Bhaskar Chandra Kar, the medical officer of the Pattamundai community health centre (CHC), who is responsible for the negligence.

According to reports, one Sujata Nayak, the daughter of Basudev Nayak of Baipada village under Pattamundai police limits was admitted to the CHC following her illness on April 10, 2015. Family members of the deceased girl alleged that Sujata died due to delay in treatment by Dr Kar.

Later, a petition was filed with the OHRC on behalf of the bereaved family members and a complaint was filed at Pattamundai police station.
