Berhampur: Bikash Moharana of Ustapada village in Khallikote, Ganjam has brought pride to the State by climbing the 8,848 meter Mount Everest and hoisting the Tricolour atop it.

Bikash, who works with the Indian Navy, climbed the Mount Everest along with 17 persons. However, only nine of them managed to reach the mountain peak.

After his return to village Ustapada, Bikash was welcomed by villagers amid traditional drum beat and shower of flowers.

“We took 18 days to reach the base camp and then another 20-30 days to go through the acclimatised phase,” he said.

Expressing his happiness over Bikash’s achievement, father Michhan Moharana said, “We did not expect my son will complete the tough task in such a short period of time.”
