Cuttack: The Odisha government is targeting to procure 24.53% of Kharif paddy from the 10 districts under the Central revenue division.

In a meeting at the Cuttack Collectors office, to make the paddy procurement process more streamlined and transparent, it was noted that till now 3,29,856 farmers have registered themselves to sell paddy.

According to sources, the government will be procuring paddy from 1,367 centers through 1,377 societies. Similarly, special arrangements have been made to bring share croppers into the fold of the government paddy procurement mechanism, informed Food Supply and Consumer Welfare minister Sanjay Dasburma.

The minister also said that provisions have been made transfer the money to farmers online and more emphasis is being laid on preventing exploitation of farmers by middlemen at the procurement centres.

“Out of all the paddy procurement blocks in Odisha, we have made P-PAS provisions in 294 blocks. As per preliminary estimates, we will be procuring 24.53% paddy from the central zone,” the minister informed.
