Odisha students to get lifetime-valid caste certificates

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to provide permanent caste certificates to SC, ST and socially and educationally backward class (SEBC) students from Class V to XII.

The caste certificate will be valid for lifetime while the authorities have been asked to undertake special measures and complete issuance of certificates to students within next six months.

Nearly 19 lakh students in the State are likely to be benefited from such a move of the government, said chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi after a high level meeting held on Tuesday.

Padhi informed that rules will also be shortly amended so as to ensure that caste certificates once issued stay valid for lifetime.

The objective of this decision is to ensure that all students belonging to ST, SC communities are not required to repeatedly visit the revenue offices for getting their caste certificates.
