Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions intensified in many parts of Odisha today with Balangir recording the highest temperature of 44 degrees Celsius.

The mercury hovered above 40 degrees Celsius in at least 10 places, mostly in western Odisha, while the coastal areas witnessed cloudy conditions, according to the Meteorological centre.

The state capital, Bhubaneswar, recorded 35.8 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature in neighbouring Cuttack stood at 36 degrees Celsius, it said.

Balangir and Sonepur recorded a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius followed by 42.6 degrees Celsius in Jharsuguda and Hirakud. Bhawanipatna and Sambalpur registered 42.5 and 42.3 degrees Celsius respectively, it said.

The mercury soared to 41.1 degrees Celsius in Angul while it was 41 degrees Celsius in Sundargarh, 40.8 degrees Celsius in Talcher and 40.5 degrees Celsius in Keonjhargarh, the weather office said.
