Odisha shocker: Girl buried alive, rescued in Bonai

Sundergarh: Because she was not a boy, her parents left her to die in a forest. In what could shake the conscience of mankind, a day-old newborn girl was rescued in a critical condition after she was buried alive at Sanajharan in Bonai on Saturday.

It is suspected that her parents might have buried the newborn neck-below in the nearby forest.

It was a group of local villagers who heard the cries of the baby when they had gone to nearby forest. They rescued the newborn with assistance from local police after thunderstorm that had lashed the region yesterday.

Later, she was admitted to hospital by an ASHA worker and her condition is said to be critical.

"Locals had searched for the baby and she was buried upto neck in the mud and her face was covered with leaves. Today, locals rescued her and informed me about the incident," said ASHA worker, Lilimani Munda.

The villagers claimed that the newborn’s condition is suspected to be critical as she had to brave heavy rains and cold last night.

"At around 8:30 am, the neonate was admitted to the hospital and preliminary treatment is being provided to her," said Dr. Bholeswar Pradhan.
