Bhubaneswar: Odisha produced a record 1.98 crore metric tonne food grains last year, informed Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout today.

Talking to media persons after the Agriculture Cabinet meeting at the State Secretariat here, Rout said the record food grains harvested in the State includes 98.74 lakh metric tonne of rice.

Fish production was up from 2.59 lakh MT in 2000 to 6.08 lakh MT in 2016-17.

On the other hand, to benefit dairy farmers, a milk processing plant with five lakh metric tonne capacity will be set up in Barang, the minister added.

In the recent flood, total 39,000 hectares farm lands were inundated whereas Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Balasore districts were the worst-hit, the minister said.
