Odisha remembers Madhu Babu on his birth anniversary

Cuttack: Rich tributes were paid to Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das on his 168th birth anniversary on Thursday.

A number of programs have been organised across the state to mark the occasion today.

Special programmes have been organised at various places in Cuttack where he spent the better part of his working life. One such programme was held at Gorakabar where he was laid rest.

Social organisations like Utkala Sammilani, Utkala Sahitya Samaj, Sailabala Women's College and the district administration have organised various programs at his cemetery and residence on Mission Road in the city.

Besides, ‘Madhu Jyoti’ will be brought from Satyabhamapur, the birthplace of Madhu Babu near Salepur and a procession will be taken out in Cuttack.

Considered one of the foremost modern thinkers of our country and the architect of modern Odisha, Madhusudhan Das played a vital role in his capacity as a lawyer, political reformer, litterateur and social worker. He played a major role in the formation of the separate Odisha state.
