Bhubaneswar: The State recorded 17.4% less rainfall of 293.9 mm in August as against the normal rainfall at 356 mm, said the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office on Thursday.

Malkangiri experienced maximum rainfall at 493.8 mm in the month while Boudh recorded minimum rainfall of 192 mm, as per the SRC office.

The State experienced 7.7% less rainfall for three months from June to August. Only Gajapati and Ganjam districts registered 19% more rainfall during the period, the office added.

Normal rainfall occurred in 18 districts including Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Malkangiri and Khurda, whereas 10 districts recorded 39% less rainfall from June to August.

A total of 62 blocks recorded 19% less rainfall and 75 blocks registered 19-39% less rain while normal rains occurred in 151 blocks.

Remaining 24 blocks experienced 39-59% less rainfall in the three months.

Odapada block in Dhenkanal and Kanhia of Angul district registered less than 59% rainfall.
