Subarnapur: A team of 21 mountaineers led by internationally-acclaimed mountaineer Jogabyasa Bhoi scaled Trikut Hill in Subarnapur district on the occasion of International Mountain Day 2017 today.

The team trekked to a height of 2527 feet above sea level covering a distance of 10 kilometres, starting from Chhalia in the district and visited various caves atop the hill.

“Patali Srikhetra has mountains along with spiritual culture and heritage and there is a scope for development of adventure tourism. It is our aim that message of Jagannath culture should spread throughout the world from this place. Besides, everyone should love mountains and conserve the environment,” said Jogabyasa.

“We are happy that the environment is good and it is surprising that the caves here are still unnoticed. We are trying to draw attention of the world towards it. The place is an epitome of beauty and we are glad to climb the Trikut hill,” said a young mountaineer Lipsamayee Dubey.

The expedition organised by Odisha Mountaineering Trust and Patali Srikhetra Trust on the occasion of International Mountain Day 2017 has provided a new identity to the tourist spot and it is expected to develop culture and tourism, said the organisers and intellectuals.

The theme for this year’s International Mountain Day 2017 was “Mountain Under Pressure: Climate, Hunger, and Migration.”
