Jeypore: Congress MLA from Koraput Krishna Chandra Sagaria today said that he will be embracing Buddhism.

The legislator will convert from Hinduism to Buddhism at the two-day Dharma Kranti Samaroh starting tomorrow at Burja in Laxmipur of the district, informed sources.

“I will convert to Buddhism along with my family members and some other people from the village,” stated Sagaria.

Earlier, in an affidavit filed before the Executive Magistrate Koraput, Sagaria had expressed his intention to covert to Buddhism along with his family members.

“I intend to convert my religion from Hinduism to Buddhism as per my own will and without any pressure, coercion or inducement from any corner,” Sagaria mentioned in his affidavit.

The legislator had also stated that he will abide by all the provisions prescribed in the Odisha Freedom of Religion Act, 1967 and 1989.

“I shall follow all the procedure for conversion as required by the Rules of the Odisha Freedom of Religion Rules 1989,” he had mentioned in the affidavit.
