Bhubaneswar: In support of the call of the Bar Council of India, the Odisha State Bar Council today observed a state wide cease work stir protesting against the proposed Advocates’ (Amendment) Bill-2017 by the Law Commission of India (LCI).

As part of the protest, lawyers across the state refrained from court works and burnt the report copy of the Law Commission in front of courts at their respective districts.

In Salepur, the lawyers’ association staged a demonstration and burnt the report copy of the proposed bill in front of the Salepur sub-judge court. The Jharsuguda Lawyers’ Association also staged a demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the district Collector addressing to the President.

In Rayagada, all lawyers of the district joined the cease-work stir and staged a demonstration whereas the Bhadrak Lawyers’ Association took out a protest march to the court.

The Odisha State Bar Council has also planned to organise a national convention on April 22 at Bhubaneswar in which representatives of different state bar councils, High Court Bar Associations will participate to discuss on the report and decide on the future course of action.
