Cuttack: Odisha Government on Saturday announced that it will bear the medical expenses of Nayagarh newborn twins joined at stomach. The twins are currently undergoing treatment at Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack.

“The Odisha Government will bear medical expenses of Nayagarh twins joined at stomach. They can be treated here at Sishu Bhawan. If required, we would hire experts from outside or send them outside the State for treatment," Health Minister Pratap Jena told reporters after visiting the twins at Sishu Bhawan.

A special team of doctors has been formed to treat the newborn twins, he added.

Sishu Bhawan superintendent Saroj Satpathy said the condition of the twins is not well. "It needs to be confirmed whether they have any common vital organs. Their condition is not well. Breath process is deep. Oxygen content in blood is very low. Generally in such cases, early operation creates various problems," said Satpathy.

Meanwhile, father of the twins Kishore Kumar Dutta expressed his gratitude to the State Government for the assistance extended. Dutta, who is working at a private company, had urged the Government to help him financially to get his babies treated.

The twin girls were born to Kishore and Sumitra Dutta of Sarankul in Nayagarh district on Friday at a Private Nursing Home. The twins were shifted to Sishu Bhawan as their condition was not well.
