Bhubaneswar: The BJD-led Odisha government's plans for Children's Day celebrations have snowballed into a controversy with BJP today accusing the ruling party of misusing taxpayers money to gain political mileage.

BJP also launched a website, www.studenttips.in, for children on the eve of Children's Day to highlight the failures of the State government in its 17 years of rule.

The website highlights corruption, lack of education and healthcare facilities in the State.

Speaking at a press conference, BJP vice president Sameer Mohanty took a jab at the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and said, "At last after 17 years, love for children has suddenly surfaced in CM's heart. The hidden reason is pure selfishness."

Mohanty also accused the government of spending Rs 200 crore from the State exchequer for Children's Day celebrations.

Reacting to the allegations made by BJP, BJD spokesperson Samir Dash said that the State government doesn't need the permission of BJP prior to undertaking any expenditure.

"If the CM wants to give students a message on Children's Day, the BJP should be happy. Why it is getting so intolerant? questioned Das.
