Sambalpur: In what is now being seen as a ‘stop-gap arrangement’, Odisha Government on Tuesday ordered deployment of 116 post graduate doctors to VISMAR on an emergency basis.

The move comes in the wake of the ongoing ‘cease work’ agitation by the medicos demanding immediate transfer of VIMSAR director Ashwini Pujahari.

As per the Health and Family Welfare Department’s direction, nearly 116 post graduate students have been asked to join duty at VIMSAR at the earliest. They have been asked to report VIMSAR superintendent by 10 am tomorrow.

Health services at VIMSAR is likely to get affected in coming days as so far all efforts made by local MLA as well as administration to pacify the agitating post graduate students have failed.

The students are demanding for immediate transfer of the director, adequate security in the campus among others. Though a delegation of the post graduate students had met Health Minister Pratap Jena, the meeting was inconclusive.

“I have asked the agitating medicos to call off their agitation first before taking necessary action in connection with the incident,” said Jena.

Meanwhile, the VIMSAR resident doctors association along with post graduate students at SCB and MKCG have extended support to the ongoing cease-work agiation.
