Odisha encouraging pvt investment in hospitals in remote areas

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government, which is expecting investment of Rs 1,100 crore in healthcare sector in the next five years, is encouraging private players to set up hospitals in remote areas of the state.

"We have come out with a policy with a host of incentives and exemptions for private players to set up quality healthcare facilities in priority districts falling in remote areas of the state," state Health and Family Welfare Secretary Pramod Meherda told reporters on the sidelines of 'Make in Odisha Conclave' here.

The 11 priority districts include Bolangir, Boudh, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri and Sonepur.

The state will offer a subsidy of 30 per cent on capital investment in projects that will be subject to a ceiling of Rs 10 crore for hospitals with capacity upto 100 beds.

The state government will also give incentives to an existing hospital in the priority district if it upgrades to a multi-speciality hospital or a super-speciality hospital, provided the new capacity expansion has at least 50 per cent additional beds and the existing capacity is at least 100 beds.
