Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Director-General of Police (DGP) of Odisha, Rajendra Prasad Sharma was on Thursday conferred the prestigious ‘Police Excellence Award’ by the Foundation Police Research in New Delhi.

Union Minister of State of Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel felicitated Sharma with the award during the International Police Expo and Conference for his exceptional service to public and protecting rights of people for a better civil society in Odisha.

Sharma a 1986 batch IPS officer now becomes the only IPS officer from Odisha cadre to have been honoured with this coveted award.

A native of Ajmer district in Rajasthan and a doctor by profession, Sharma was appointed the DGP of Odisha in August last year replacing KB Singh.

Speaking to OTV on his felicitation, Sharma said people friendly approach especially for the welfare of the senior citizens, women at the police station level to gain confidence of the people is the biggest challenge that he has been successfully dealing with and the foundation has recognised his achievements.

“This award truly belongs to people of Odisha who have given me so much respect, recognition and affection in last 32 years,” the top cop stated in his twitter post.
