Bhubaneswar: Worried over rise in incidents of 'organized crime' in Odisha, Director General (DG) of Police, RP Sharma on Tuesday directed senior officials including Superintendents of Police to act tough on 'mafias.'

Addressing the police officials through video-conferencing, Sharma instructed to launch special drives to curb operations of stone, sand & transport mafias in their respective areas.

The police officers have been directed to focus on arresting wanted criminals, execute pending warrants, close pending cases against anti-socials promptly by launching special drives over a period of 30 days.

Sources said, the officers have been directed to maintain dossiers of criminals and take measures to book them under preventive custody under section 107/110 CrPC and slap National Security Act (NSA) against hardcore criminals.

Senior police officers have been clearly instructed to extend full support to take action against mafia involved in illegal sand & stone quarrying, tender frauds, illegal narcotics and smuggling of arms.

The Superintendents of Police of respective districts have been asked to put in place special 'response system' to respond to emergency situations in a more prompt and efficient manner.
The performance of concerned SPs and DCPs will be reviewed after completion of the special drive in 30 days.
