Bhubaneswar: While Congress president Rahul Gandhi appointed former Union Minister Jitendra Singh as All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Odisha, senior party leader and former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi today held a meeting with party workers in Malkangiri to select candidate for the upcoming 2019 general elections.

As per reports, Majhi and over 200 party activists congregated in front of the Kalimela tehsil office in Malkangiri district today and unanimously announced Mala Madhi as the party candidate for Malkangiri Assembly constituency.

The selection of the candidates was reportedly done without any directive from the party high command.

Moreover, Majhi also launched campaigning from MV-69 village.

"If we declare our candidates early then it will be helpful for the candidates to strengthen their base in the region. We have unanimously passed a resolution related to selection of the candidate and will send it to the party high command for approval," said Majhi.

Comments of other leaders of the party could not be obtained on the matter.
