Neither religious nor a cultural event, this festival is not owned by anyone so everyone can celebrate the Joy of Giving that begins on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, also celebrated as National Day of Service.

"We have been celebrating Daan Utsav here at Bakul Library, Bhubaneswar. This year volunteers of our organisation in 13 cities across India including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Sambalpur are trying to spread smiles", said Sujit Mahapatra from Bakul Foundation.
