Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was today adjourned twice due to pandemonium over demonetisation issue, which completed a month yesterday.

The issue was raised by Opposition Chief Whip TaraprasadBahinipati of Congress who demanded a statement from OdishaFinance Minister Pradip Kumar Amat.

"The situation has become akin to the Emergency due to scarcity of cash in the market," he claimed.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra of Congress asked why the Centre had not taken action even after the Chief Minister wrote to the Union Finance Ministry to make provisions for people in rural and tribal pockets.

Congress members rushed to well of the House seeking a ruling from deputy speaker S Marndi, who was presiding over the session. Unable to run the House, the deputy speaker adjourned the House twice, the second time till 3 PM.

Interestingly, some BJD members also shouted and criticised the NDA government over the matter even as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation move a "bold step."

The BJP members, however, remained silent in the House.

Some of them defended the Central government outside the Assembly.
