Bhubaneswar/Mathura: In what may raise questions on the safety of women devotees inside temples in general and in the land of Lord Krishna in particular, an Odia woman has allegedly been raped inside the Radharani temple in Mathura of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident which occurred here on Monday has been captured in the CCTV footage.

The woman reportedly arrived at the temple on Monday and decided to stay there. However, the decision proved costly for her after two persons, one the cook and the other identified as the security guard of the temple, allegedly raped her that night.

A part of the incident was captured in the CCTV footage of the temple. Later when the footage was examined, visuals of a man forcefully dragging and carrying her to one corner could be seen.

The matter came to light after the woman reported about the incident to the local police.

“Police seemed completely disinterested after I lodged a complaint. Common women like us always face discrimination,” alleged the woman.

Initially police did not pay any heed to the complaints of the woman. However, after the incident spread nationwide, the police assured a proper investigation to nab the two accused absconding.

“Two men from the temple, the cook and the security guard have allegedly raped her. A special team has been formed. Both of them will be arrested soon,” said the Investigating Officer.
