Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has sought an impartial probe into the death of Shreyas Kesharwani (Omm), a student from Sambalpur, allegedly due to ragging by his friends at a private college in Visakhapatnam.

According to sources, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and urged for a probe by an 'independent agency.'
Earlier, parents of the deceased student had met Patnaik at the Secretariat and had sought intervention of the State government in the matter.

It may be recalled that the +2 first year student was allegedly ragged and beaten up brutally by a few students inside the hostel of Sri Chaitanya College at Visakhapatnam on December 26 last year.

Shreyas was admitted to a hospital in Rourkela for treatment and later shifted to Bhubaneswar. He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on January 6.

The death had then sparked off widespread resentment with locals observing a bandh in Garposh area in Sambalpur.

Several students' outfits had also carried out rallies demanding a CBI probe into the incident.
A team of Vizag police had also conducted a preliminary investigation by examining doctors at the private hospital where Shreyas was undergoing treatment.
