Bhubaneswar: Odia cadre IAS officer Upendra Prasad Singh has been appointed by the Centre as new Secretary of the Water Resources Ministry.

The 1985 batch IAS officer would replace Dr Amarjit Singh, who retires on November 30.

Prior to the new assignment, Singh was working as the Director General (DG) of Clean Ganga Mission.

Singh will also hold additional responsibility as River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Secretary.

He had worked as Secretary of Steel and Mines, Water Resources and Agriculture in Odisha before his Central deputation.

At a time when the Odisha government is demanding the Centre for the formation of a tribunal to resolve the Mahanadi water row with Chhattisgarh, Singh’s appointment as the Water Resources Secretary is seen as a positive sign for the State.
