Sambalpur: Celebrated a day after ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ every year, Western Odisha is all set to celebrate ‘Nuakhai’ tomorrow.

As per the ‘Lagna’, ‘Nabanna’ or rice out of newly-harvested paddy crop will be offered to Goddess Samaleswari, the presiding deity of Sambalpur between 9.05 am and 9.15 am.

On the occasion, Goddess Samaleswari will be draped in a new sari and adorned with ornaments.

“We will offer the ‘Nabanna’ to our presiding deity and Goddess Laxmi as a mark of gratitude for bumper harvest, good rain and favourable weather for farming,” said a resident of Sambalpur.

“The head of our family worships the household deity and offers new rice. Then ‘prasad’ is distributed and we all sit and have our food together,” said a resident of Bolangir, adding that whoever works outside the native land returns home during the festival to celebrate it with family members.
