Notorious criminal Manga arrested after encounter in Ganjam

Ganjam: Resuming its crackdown on anti-social elements in a bid to make the city ‘crime free’, police on Sunday arrested dreaded criminal Rajesh Panda alias Manga after an encounter here.

Sources said, Manga, a resident of Bada Sahi was arrested after an encounter by a special police squad near an Ice factory on Gosani Nuagaon main road this evening.

Manga has sustained a bullet injury on his left thigh and has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. One country-made pistol, three rounds of live ammunition and a Pulsar motorcycle have been recovered from his possession.

According to information, Manga is wanted in as many as 5 different cases including dacoity, attempt to murder and 10 other criminal cases registered with GRP, Berhampur.

"Based on a credible information about the hiding of Manga, Gosani Nuagaon IIC along with his team raided the spot near the ice factory. When the cops and Manga confronted each other, the accused opened fired in a bid to slip away and the police officials also retaliated and injured him. Investigation is on to find out about his other planned criminal activities," a senior police official said.
