Bhubaneswar: Noted opera script writer, director and artiste Ananta Ojha passed away after a prolonged battle with mouth cancer at HCG hospital in Bangalore today. He was 59.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, daughter and mother.

Ojha was undergoing treatment in Bangalore for around one and a half months.  He was put on ventilator support in the morning today after his condition deteriorated.

“His condition was well till last evening. But, doctors told us in the morning that he is in critical condition. He breathed his last at around 6.15 pm,” said Sabyasachi, elder son of Ananta Ojha. He also requested Odisha government and people to provide some financial helps so that the pending hospital bills could be cleared.

Many opera artists had raised funds through a road show to meet the treatment expenses of the veteran script writer.

Condolences poured in from across the entertainment industry following his passing away.

‘Jatra Kalakar Kalyan Samiti’ had earlier appealed to the Culture Minister and the Culture Secretary to fund his treatment.

Meanwhile, CM Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda condoled his death and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
