Cuttack: Noted Odia actor Anita Das who had created a niche in the Odia film industry by playing the role of the mother of main characters in over hundred films, passed away today at her Mission Road residence in Cuttack. She was 59 years old.

As per family sources, Anita died of a heart attack.

A pall of gloom descended on the Ollywood fraternity with condolences pouring in from all quarters following the sad demise of Anita.

"She was like a mother to me in real life and that feeling had always been with me ever since I began my career," Ollywood actor, Siddhanth Mohapatra said.

"In the entire history of Odia movie industry, if there was one who should be called a true actor to best enact a mother then it should be Anita Das," actor Pradyumna Lenka said.

Anita, who debuted in the Krushna Sudama Kathachitra in 1976, went on to act in over a hundred films in Odia and Bengali.

Spanning over nearly three decades, her glittering career will be mostly remembered for her roles in Odia films like 'Pua Mora Kala Thakura,' 'Anti Chhuri Tanti Kate,' 'Suna Chadhhei,' and 'Laxman Rekha.'

Moreover, Anita has won hearts of many cine lovers through her acting in Bengali movies.

Anita has won many awards including Banichitra Lifetime Achievement Award for her immense contribution to acting and film industry.
