Kendrapara: Amid cheer of thousands of supporters, MP Baijayant Panda today walked to the 1,00,000 litres capacity overhead water tank at Andara village in Pattamundai block to dedicate it to the masses. As is customarily done by the MP, a little girl once again was called to do the honours along with Panda flanked by large number of villagers.

This was the 13th overhead water tank project out of the total 57 MPLAD-funded drinking water projects the MP has sanctioned for his constituency, each with a capacity of 1,00,000 litres. The tank, been built at a cost of Rs 28 lakh, would address the drinking water requirements of many villages.

Speaking on the occasion, Panda said, “Some people are trying to stop the projects which are meant for the benefit of the people. But I will continue my work without any fear because I have the support of people who have bestowed me with the responsibility to fight their issues at the Delhi Darbar.”

“This is the 13th out of the 57 such projects under the MPLAD fund to come up in the area. This one lakh litre capacity overhead water tank will wipe out the water issue in the region for the next 20-25 years,” Panda said.

The LS member said that even his suspension from the BJD cannot stop him from doing work for the people. Answering a media query on the BJD seeking his resignation, the parliamentarian said, “I have come to power with the mandate of people and will continue to work for them. It is government officials who are misutilising their position to interfere in politics, in collecting donations illegally and distributing tickets, who should resign first.”

“I can’t forget the support, love and affection that I have been receiving not only from the people of Kendrapara but also from people across the state and the country. Nobody can throw me from the hearts of the people here neither can I forget my people,” the MP said while addressing the meeting.

Putting his views on the condition of girls and women in the state, Panda said, its for people to see how cases of wrongdoings against women are on rise. “Goondagiri has taken roots in the state. I can say that it is sheer hypocrisy of the administration that a woman who hurls eggs at the CM is charged with attempt to murder case but when some months back, stones were also pelted at me, no action was even initiated for four months,” Panda stated.

The MP also visited Talasanga village under Mahakalapada block in Kendrapara and held discussion with the locals about their problems. He also met families of fire mishap victims and assured them of all possible help.

Panda was scheduled to attend a felicitation programme in the village today. However, the event was cancelled after the venue was ransacked by some miscreants last night.
