Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today asked the Puri Municipality authorities not to set up any vending zone or allow temporary stalls on either sides of the Bada Danda (Grand Road).

The court issued the directive while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by social activist Jitendra Sahu.

Drawing the attention of the court, the petitioner had said since the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had declared the Bada Danda as part of the National Highway, the entire stretch of Bada Danda from Shri Jagannath temple to Gundicha Temple has remained under its jurisdiction. Despite this, the Puri Municipal authorities had issued a notification for setting up of a vending zone on the Bada Danda on June 21 this year.

Stating that the notification issued by the Municipal authorities was a gross violation of the rules, the petitioner had moved the High Court seeking its urgent intervention in the matter.
