New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: No tribal family from Odisha will be affected by the Polavaram project if the State government constructs an embankment to check flow of water into its border area, said Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Oram informed the Upper House as per the reports of Polavaram Project Authority while responding to CPI member D Raja who wanted to know the number of families from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh to be affected because of the project.

The minister informed that 17,444 tribal people of north Andhra Pradesh will be displaced. But, the project will not cause harm to any one from Odisha and Chhattisgarh, Oram clarified while replying to Raja who questioned whether any survey has been conducted in last three years on displacement.
